'DESERT ISLAND DISCS' EVENING
Fiona MacDonald (BBC World Service) interviews Thomas Prag and Eileen MacKintosh
Friday17th January 2020 7.30pm - Smithton Church Cafe Lounge, Inverness
...an evening of interesting life stories, good music and refreshments in the relaxed surroundings of the café/lounge in Smithton Church. One of our choir members, Peter Evans, hosted the evening introducing our Desert Island Discs’ interviewer, Fiona MacDonald of the BBC World Service. Fiona is a trained musician having previously graduated from RSAMD in Glasgow before embarking on a career in journalism.

The programme began with an interview with Thomas Prag who worked for the BBC before becoming more widely known as the founder Managing Director of MFR. More recently he served the town for many years as a Local Councillor. Thomas is a longtime member of the Inverness Choral Society and a proud founder member of the Truly Terrible Orchestra. Highlights of his life story will be woven around his personal music choices.

After the break, Fiona interviewed Eileen Mackintosh, an American soprano who has recently come to live in Inverness with her Scottish husband. Eileen has had a very distinguished career in the American opera circuit, having performed many leading roles. She is also a conductor, a pianist and a vocal coach. To conclude the evening’s entertainment, Eileen sang her final choice of music and accompanied herself on the piano.

All in all, this was a great musical evening!
